After a 2 hr drive to Richmond, being asked if I was going to a nudist convention because my bag only weighed 19 pounds, saying goodbye to the family, and flying to JFK, my mind started to register that I was actually going to Africa! Let the nerves begin!when I got to JFK it was crazy busy and big, but luckily I got the numbers of 2 lovely ladies who were going on the trip with me, Darby and Lauren, and we met up at JFK and hung out during the 5 hour layover.
5 minutes before I had to board the plane, I had a complete freak out moment: Holy crap. I'm about to get on a plane to go to Africa. I don't know if I can actually do this. I called Mom and Jay and then the tears came. When I got on the plane I was still crying a bit and the flight attendant asked what was wrong, I told her I was already getting homesick and she goes, "Girl! We haven't even left yet!" Yeahhhh 20 years old and I cried leaving home...problem?
Granny hooked me up with an amazing seat, so props to her, and I slept almost the whole 10 hours. Then...
I WOKE UP IN AFRICA!!
It was love at fist sight!
Customs was easy (which is good because I was quite nervous about that for some reason) and I found my bag quickly, but we waited for everyone else before finding Dr. Owusu-Ansah. Unfortunately Darby's bag didn't make it here!!! Hopefully it will be here tomorrow though. For now we will just share some stuff with her :)
Please pray for a safety while here and for me to keep an open heart and mind during this trip. Also, pray that we all get along with one another (although so far it's been great!) thank you for all of the love and support! Couldn't do it without you all :)
