Have I Mentioned I'm in Love?

It is so beautiful in Ghana! I am just completely in love with everything, the people, the atmosphere, the language, everything! But let me tell you, jet lag is a struggle...we had to get up so early today and my roommate, Ashley, and I kept hitting the snooze button. It was so rough.
Awuku (our tour guide)

But the day was fantastic after we got up and moving! Awuku (our tour guide for the month) took us out and showed us around Ghana :) it was so much fun! I wanted to keep going around and touring when we came back to the hotel, but I have to keep reminding myself that I will have time to see everything, take it one day at a time. Awuku is extremely nice and talked about the history of different parts of Ghana throughout the bus ride. He also puts up with my crazy questions and me asking him how he is doing 100 times in Twi...

First we went to W. E. B. DuBois house which was really neat:
Here is the whole crew!

Then we went to a museum that Dr. O-A used as an into to Ghana and it's history. We weren't allowed to take pictures, but it was really neat and I enjoyed it a lot; I can't wait to learn more too.

We went to a memorial for Ghana's first President--the man who helped them gain independence. It was really cool and just gave us more insight to the history and government of Ghana. Right now, Ghana is on their Fourth Republic and it is a model for other African societies. The first president was thrown over by a military coup that happened to be sponsored by the US, because he started talking to China and the US was afraid of Ghana going communist.

Lunch was crazy! I ate goat intestines!!!!! It was so gross. We went to this nice buffet type resteraunt and I just told the guy to make me something good because I had no idea what the food was. Yeah. Bad decision. He gave me goat intestines in this slimy soup-like sauce thing with a dough ball made of corn and rice. It was weird. But hey, when in Ghana, right?

Here are some other random pictures of what I saw when driving around Ghana:

Moses
The Art and Culture Center that we went to was awesome! It was literally a market and it was packed and crazy with guys coming up to you and trying to get you to buy their stuff and the "huts" or alcoves that people had were stocked with all sorts of goodies. It was so crazy, but really exciting all at the same time. Emanuel and Prince (who I met last night) worked their which ended up being really comforting because they walked around with us and helped "push" people away--for lack of a better way to describe it. But I ended up talking to a guy, Moses, who had a drum shop and he brought me and my friends over to see his drums and taught us how to play! It was so sick! And then the rest of the JMU group came over and joined us! It was awesome.

Then we went back to the hotel and people are napping and relaxing. I am sitting in the business center because these pictures too super long to upload, and they won't upload on my iPad, so in the future, you may not get pictures...we will see though.

If you wouldn't mind continuing to pray for safety and bonding time with the others from JMU
